Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadjov: Following the construction of the Voluyak intermodal terminal, the area will become a hub for the cargo industry

With the completion of the Voluyak intermodal terminal, the area is set to become a hub for the cargo industry around Sofia. This will contribute both to reducing air pollution and improving road safety. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Grozdan Karadjov, at the launch of the construction of the Voluyak multimodal rail-road terminal.

"Cargo will pass through this terminal along the south–north axis, and with the development of Corridor 8 – along the east–west axis as well," Karadjov noted. According to him, the faster it is built and becomes operational, the better it will be not only for Sofia, but for the entire country.

"Currently, there is no facility in the capital where a train composition of 740 metres in length  can be processed without being split, and where transhipment from one mode of transport to another can begin," Deputy Prime Minister Karadjov pointed out. He added that upon completion of the terminal's construction, new opportunities for efficient freight transport in the region would be unlocked. Grozdan Karadjov congratulated the management of the construction company on this valuable investment and described the construction of the Sofia-West intermodal platform as a bold and ambitious undertaking.

The project "Multimodal Logistics Platform Sofia – West (Voluyak Rail-Road Terminal)" is funded under the Connecting Europe Facility 2021 – 2027. The beneficiary of the project is "Transexpress" EOOD, and its value amounts to 8,590,759 euros.
