Deputy Prime Minister Grozdan Karadzhov: The euro will be another guarantee of stability in Bulgaria after January 1, 2026

Since 2007, when Bulgaria joined the wider European family, we have come a long and difficult way. We have built a stable financial system and today we no longer want to be part of a two-speed Europe, we want to be at the economic core of Europe. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov said in Silistra during an information event as part of the campaign for the introduction of the euro. According to him, by adopting the euro Bulgaria is joining one of the dominant currencies in the world, which will lead to a more stable and stronger economy.

“The euro is a symbol of trust, stability and security. Wherever you travel around the world, everyone has confidence in this currency. The countries in the eurozone have a number of benefits – lower interest rates and more affordable real estate, more investments and, therefore, more jobs,” the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized. He pointed out that a large percentage of Bulgarian businesses and citizens already save in euro and borrow in euro. For business, a common currency means predictability, and for families and all of us it means peace of mind. The reassurance that no unreasonable government could come into power and put the country in a financial spiral,” Grozdan Karadzhov highlighted.

He added that Silistra has always been a city oriented towards Europe. Here our ancestors built bridges both in trade and in culture. In the same way, the euro will provide a new foundation for the development of trade and culture and will bring Bulgaria closer to Europe, the Deputy Prime Minister added.

From January 1, post offices will be the places where leva can be exchanged for euro in the smallest settlements where there are no bank branches and ATMs. Currency exchange will be available at 59 post offices in Silistra Region. Over 100 employees in the region have already been trained, Grozdan Karadzhov reported.

The event was attended by the city’s mayor Alexander Sabanov, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Lozana Vasileva, representatives from the Ministry of Finance, the National Revenue Agency, the Consumer Protection Commission, the General Labour Inspectorate and others.
