In connection with the severe road incident from last night, in which three people died, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov ordered a full inspection of the training and exam of the young driver who caused the crash.
The inspection is being carried out by the The Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", and all available data and recordings from the driver candidate training system, as well as recordings from the driver's theoretical and practical exams, will be reviewed.
"We will check the complete chronology of the training – routes, duration, driving hours, including whether there was night driving, as well as the recordings from the theory and practical exams. This allows us to objectively verify exactly how the training was conducted and whether there were violations and fictitiously logged hours," said Minister Karadzhov.
Deputy Prime Minister Karadzhov noted that checking the digital records is an important guarantee of transparency and accountability in the driver training system. "No inspection can bring back human lives, but we are obliged to find out whether all training and control procedures were followed. For complete objectivity, we will invite representatives of NGOs and the media to participate in the inspection," he added.
"I express my condolences to the relatives of the deceased, and I assure you that the results of the inspection will be made public," Karadzhov stated.
At the initiative of non-governmental organisations, Minister Karadzhov will also discuss the possibility of introducing graduated licensing for young drivers – a system in which new drivers go through phased restrictions until they gain sufficient experience on the road.
The inspection of the driving school will take place tomorrow (Sunday) at 11:00 a.m. at the Regional Department "Automobile Administration" – Burgas, Pobeda Residential Area, 14 Gen. Vladimir Vazov Str. Both media and representatives of industry organisations in the field of driver candidate training may attend.
