With new fast charging stations along the TEN-T network, we will be able to charge electric vehicles in 15 minutes. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov. He awarded the first six contracts for the construction of fast charging centres for electric vehicles along the roads. Together, they're worth about €1.4 million, which is covered by the 2021–2027 Transport Connectivity Program.
"With these projects, we're making it possible for electric vehicles to leave the city and hit the highways, first-class roads, and expressways," he added. The Deputy Prime Minister announced that the charging centres will be built at key points on the road network – on the Trakia motorway at the exits for Chirpan and the village of Kabile, on Asenovgradsko Shose Blvd. near Plovdiv, on the E-79 road in the Mezdra area, in the Chanlaka area in Aksakovo, and near the village of Zavoy in the Yambol region.
For the first time, the European transport program includes targeted funding for charging infrastructure. The total budget for the measure is €15 million. "It is enough to build a national network of fast charging stations along the main roads in the country," said Grozdan Karadzhov. The projects also include the use of renewable energy, as well as rest areas where people can relax while their cars are charging.
A week ago, a second procedure for the construction of charging infrastructure with a budget of €10 million was launched. "The period for submitting applications is six months—enough time for companies to comfortably prepare their projects and all the necessary documents so that we can make the most of European support," said Deputy Prime Minister Karadzhov.
