By order of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Grozdan Karadjov, the Executive Agency "Railway Administration" (EA RA) has launched an emergency inspection into the circumstances surrounding the derailment of a freight wagon travelling on the Devnya–Filipovo route, which occurred in the Konyovo–Kermen section. By 12 June, EA RA will conduct a comprehensive investigation into the maintenance and repair system for freight wagons operated by the carrier, the workshop responsible for the wagon’s repairs, as well as the accident site itself.
At approximately 1:00 a.m. this morning, the third wagon of a freight train operated by a private carrier, transporting sand, derailed between Konyovo and Kermen. The incident caused significant damage to the railway infrastructure, including over 800 damaged sleepers, 410 of which were completely destroyed. Emergency teams from the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) worked overnight on the track, and shortly before 9:00 a.m., the derailed wagon was removed from the line.
Currently, passengers travelling between Stara Zagora and Yambol are being transported by bus. Train services are expected to resume by the end of the day, albeit with speed restrictions, until full restoration of the railway line is completed.
