Dimitar Nedyalkov: The Second Danube Bridge at Ruse Is a Strategic Priority for Bulgaria

The second bridge over the Danube River at Ruse-Giurgiu is among the strategic infrastructure projects for Bulgaria. This was emphasised by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Dimitar Nedyalkov, during a discussion organised by the "G.S. Rakovski" Military Academy on the topic "Enhancing National Resilience: Progress, Challenges and the Way Forward". The event was held in partnership with the US Institute for Security Governance (ISG) and  coordinated by the Security Council Secretariat at the Council of Ministers.

"The second bridge at Ruse will greatly ease traffic and improve transport connectivity along the North-South corridor, including in terms of military mobility," Deputy Minister Dimitar Nedyalkov noted. He added that within the framework of the joint design project for the new bridge, the Romanian side has already initiated pre-design studies on their riverbank. Following the signing of a contract with a contractor, Bulgaria will also launch its own pre-design procedure on its territory.

"High-quality and sustainable transport infrastructure requires significant investment. Attracting private investment through concession mechanisms will allow us to develop vital infrastructure more rapidly and effectively, without placing a burden on the national budget," the Deputy Minister remarked.

Nedyalkov also highlighted the development of the ports of Varna and Burgas, which play a crucial role in strengthening connectivity between Asia and Europe. These infrastructure facilities are also part of Corridor VIII, a key logistical route along NATO's southern flank, linking the Adriatic and Black Seas.
