The Executive Director of the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", Boyko Ranovski, presented the results of the inspections of the school buses during a demonstration inspection in the town of Kostinbrod.
Preventive control in companies began on August 25, 2026. By September 10, inspectors had checked a total of 1,079 school buses across the country. The control covered the technical condition and appearance of the vehicles, the legal capacity of the drivers, as well as the compliance with the requirements of the Road Transport Act and the Road Traffic Act in the implementation of this type of transport.
"Our main goal is to establish whether the carriers and drivers meet all the requirements for the transport of children and students, as well as to ensure the roadworthiness of the vehicles before the beginning of the school year," said Executive Director Boyko Ranovski. He added that the control will continue until September 20 on the road, and the inspectors will carry out repeated checks for the strict implementation of the given prescriptions.
As part of the inspections, 137 prescriptions have been issued for the elimination of non-compliances, including the identification of buses with the necessary plates for transporting children, certificates of fire extinguishers, replacement of worn tires and passing periodic technical inspections and additional inspections of equipment.
5 acts have been drawn up for technically defective vehicles. Violations such as worn tires to a degree of smoothness, cracks in the windscreen, missing wheel attachment elements and fire extinguishers that do not meet the requirements were found. The municipalities, owners of school buses, have been issued prescriptions to bring the vehicles in full compliance with the Road Traffic Act.
During the action, 11 acts were also drawn up at points for periodic technical inspections for deficiencies in the inspection of school buses.
