An amendment to the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria proposes to extend the deadline for taxi meters to issue receipts showing prices in both BGN and EUR until 30 October 2025. The amendment is part of a package of legislative changes submitted by the government to the National Assembly, which is expected to consider them before 8 August this year.
The extension has become necessary after taximeter manufacturers and suppliers, along with industry representatives, indicated they would be unable to reprogramme all devices by the 8 August deadline. They explained that over 20,000 meters would need to be updated, a task technologically unachievable within a one-month timeframe.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications has also launched a public consultation on proposed amendments to Ordinance No. 34 on Taxi Passenger Transport, which would introduce new taxi window stickers displaying fares in both BGN and EUR. The proposed deadline for replacing the old stickers is 8 October 2025.
