The first postage stamp for 2026 will be dedicated to Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov signed the thematic philatelic plan for the next year.
This is the most anticipated edition by collectors in Bulgaria and abroad, because the withdrawal of the Lev as the state currency closes an entire collecting cycle with more than 140 years of history and opens a new one. For Bulgaria, this is happening for the second time, after philatelic editions began to be sold in Levs instead of Centimes at the end of the 19th century, following the introduction of the national currency.
The "Transport" section includes an edition of great interest to collectors of thematic philatelic products - 125 years since the launch of the first tram and 85 years since the launch of the first trolleybus in Sofia. These types of vehicles, along with trains, are among the most popular themes collected by philatelists worldwide.
2026 marks the beginning of a new thematic series in Bulgarian stamp issuance - "Bulgarian queens".
In the "Bulgaria and the World" section, the postage stamps will feature images of Hollywood legends - Marlene Dietrich, Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, and Marilyn Monroe.
Traditionally, the most anticipated edition is the "Fauna" theme, which this time will be dedicated to birds on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
In connection with joining the Eurozone, from 1 January 2026, new definitive postage stamps will be put into circulation, which are used for domestic correspondence for the universal postal service. Personalized stamps will also have a new design and price in Euros. These editions will be dedicated to the cultural and historical heritage of Bulgaria.
