Infrastructure modernisation and investment in human resources are among the key priorities in the transport sector. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, during a discussion on expediting the development of connectivity in Southeast Europe at the Green Transition Forum 6.0 in Sofia. He pointed out that airports in the region need to expand their capacity. Better connectivity between rail transport, ports, and the road network also remains an important priority. The transition to green energy and new technologies are key to increasing the competitiveness of the transport industry.
Minister Peev added that the sector has a serious need for engineers, flight controllers, and IT specialists in aviation. Therefore, a closer partnership between business, universities, and training centres is necessary.
During the forum, Georgi Peev also held a bilateral meeting with the Greek Minister of Development, Panagiotis Theodorikakos. The two discussed opportunities for joint initiatives between the Bulgarian and Greek transport sectors.
With Mario Mauro, the European coordinator of the Baltic Sea–Black Sea–Aegean Sea Corridor, they discussed the projects with which Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania will apply under the Connecting Europe Facility.
