Krasimir Papukchiyski: Intermodal terminals will improve logistics connectivity between Bulgaria and North Macedoniaлгария и Северна Македония

Intermodal terminals should be a priority for all countries in the European Union and for the countries yet to join it. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimir Papukchiyski during a meeting with the Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of North Macedonia Blagoj Bochvarski.

The reason for Deputy Minister Papukchiyski's visit to the Republic of North Macedonia is the start of the construction of the highway section between Tetovo and Gostivar, which is part of Corridor VIII. The Bulgarian side managed to achieve inclusion of the project in the scope of the new European Transport Corridor "Western Balkans - Eastern Mediterranean".

"It is important to be ready not only with the roads, but also to pay attention to the railway transport in order to develop the entire Corridor VIII", Krasimir Papukchiiski pointed out. According to him, in order to realize these intentions, the speed must be increased in order to reduce the travel time between Sofia and Skopje, thus making rail transport competitive with road transport.

During the discussion, Deputy Minister Papukchiyski expressed his conviction in front of his colleagues that for better logistical connectivity, the construction of an intermodal terminal on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia was necessary.

During the conversation of Deputy Minister Papukchiyski with Hari Lokvenec, Director General of NP HRMV Infrastruktura, the parameters and work on Corridor VIII in the field of the rail transport were discussed. In the near future, representatives of the Macedonian side will get to know the development of the intermodal terminal in Plovdiv.
