Maritime Administration demands the owner of the "Kairos" reimburse EUR 270,371 for the ship's towing operation

The Maritime Administration has requested that the owner of the "Kairos" reimburse all costs incurred by the state for towing the tanker. The agency has already served a formal notice to the shipowner's Bulgarian agent via a private enforcement agent. The shipowner must reimburse the state the sum of EUR 270,371 by 12 January 2026.

The funds cover the full amount of expenses incurred by the state for the operation to remove the "Kairos" from the shores of Ahtopol to the Bay of Burgas.

It is recalled that on 12 December last year, the government allocated BGN 1.2 million for towing the ship to a safe location.

Three tugboats and a specialised generator, needed to activate the hydraulic system and lift the ship's anchor, participated in the operation conducted on 15 December 2025. All actions regarding the securing and towing of the tanker were carried out under the constant supervision of the Maritime Administration Executive Agency.
