Maritime Administrations of Bulgaria and Romania have successfully completed the project to increase safety on the Danube River

The Bulgarian and Romanian Maritime Administrations will hold a closing meeting in connection with the completion of the project "Increasing transport safety in the common Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the Danube River by improving the the emergency response through cross-border cooperation" – Danube Safety Net. It will take place in the city of Ruse on October 6 and 7, 2022. The partners will report and discuss the results achieved and the technical and financial implementation of the project.

Through the implementation of the Danube Safety Net project, a Geographical Information System for Transport Safety on the Danube River (DTSGIS) was delivered and integrated, two specialized non-self-propelled vessels (barges) were provided for the needs of the Maritime Administration Executive Agency and two multi-purpose self-propelled vessels for the needs of the Romanian Maritime Administration. An action plan for conducting joint search and rescue operations in the common Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the river was prepared and adopted.

The project managers will make statements to the media representatives on October 7, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the building of the Directorate "River Supervision - Ruse", Maritime Administration Executive Agency, 20 Pristanishtna Street.

Project "Increasing transport safety in the common Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the Danube by improving the emergency response through cross-border cooperation" with the acronym Danube Safety Net, is implemented under the Interreg V-A Romania-Bulgaria Cross-Border Cooperation Program 2014-2020, and its main goal is to increase the level of transport safety along the common Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the Danube River.

The implementation of the Danube Safety Net Project contributes to achieving a higher level of transport safety along the common Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the Danube, by achieving a better synchronization of actions in emergency situations of the two responsible institutions, improving the capacity of rescue teams and reducing response time in the event of a disaster.

The total budget of the project is EUR 5,699,612, of which 85% is provided by the European Regional Development Fund, and the remaining 15% is national co-financing.
