The Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Bulgaria, His Excellency (H. E.) Alexios Marios Liberopoulos. During the conversation, both parties emphasised that Bulgaria and Greece are key partners whose cooperation along the North-South axis is crucial for the region’s security and economic resilience.
A key focus of the meeting was the development of the Black Sea–Aegean Sea Corridor Platform. Minister Peev remarked on the successful trilateral cooperation between Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania. He pointed out that coordination among the three countries on joint infrastructure projects is a priority so that they can submit a joint proposal for European funding. Bulgaria’s participation in the upcoming meeting in Thessaloniki in June was confirmed, where the next steps in implementing the memorandum will be discussed.
Minister Peev offered expert support through Bulgarian-certified equipment for flight inspections of Greek ground-based air navigation systems to maintain high flight safety standards. He made a commitment to submit a specific plan for the first mission to the Greek party within the coming week.
Regarding road and rail transport, the parties expressed a shared commitment to resuming the passenger rail link between Sofia and Thessaloniki and updating border crossing regulations. Special attention was given to the need to ensure uninterrupted connectivity and free movement across border crossings. The importance of constructive dialogue in preventing traffic disruptions and border blockages was emphasised. "People have high expectations for stability and connectivity, so we must first set the right priorities," added Georgi Peev.
