Ensuring the safety of amusement rides during the summer tourist season is our top priority, and therefore inspections will be stepped up. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, at a meeting with the leadership of the Maritime Administration and representatives of the Civil Aviation Administration. Deputy Ministers Anna Natova and Hristina Velinova also participated in the discussion.
It is necessary to have clearly defined guidelines on how the regulatory framework will be implemented, as the new Law on General Safety Requirements for the Provision of Amusement Services has now entered into force, and the regulations accompanying it are being prepared by various institutions, as was emphasised during the meeting. The deadline for adopting the secondary legislation is six months.
During the upcoming inspections of water attractions starting in June, compliance with safety rules, the technical condition of the equipment, and the responsible conduct of operators will be subject to detailed inspections. The inspections will cover all high-risk attractions where improper operation could lead to accidents.
Inspections will also be conducted to ensure compliance with designated water traffic lanes, distances from beach areas and public zones, as well as the proper marking and use of zones for water attraction activities.
The Executive Agency "Maritime Administration" will conduct regular and unannounced inspections with an expanded scope throughout the summer season. Information on identified violations and measures taken will be provided periodically.
"Enforcement is extremely important, but at the same time, tourists must exercise personal responsibility, complete the mandatory safety briefing before using the facilities, and pay attention to safety equipment," commented Minister Peev.
