Minister Georgi Peev: We Are Working Towards the Development of Transport Projects and the Sustainability of Bulgarian Posts

Requests for indexation under signed construction contracts in the railway sector exceed the amount of EUR 256 million. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev in response to a question during the blitz control session of the Committee on Transport and Communications at the National Assembly. He emphasized that at present there is still no approved methodology regulating the indexation process.

The Ministry has instructed the management of the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) to develop internal rules ensuring a fair, transparent and objective allocation of the available resources in line with the work actually performed. The Minister noted that the main objective is to prevent any interruption of construction activities.

We will not close any post offices, the Minister stated categorically. He explained that the new management of Bulgarian Posts has a clear task to present a stabilisation plan, with the separation of the different services being a key element.

Minister Peev also answered other topical questions. Asked about the action plan for 25 key transport projects along the Aegean Sea – Danube – Black Sea axis by Bulgaria, Greece and Romania, he emphasizedthat, in addition to the three countries, the European Commission and, last but not least, the European Parliament are also involved in the process. “Our goal is to secure maximum European funding so that these projects can be implemented during the 2028–2034 period,” he explained.

In response to a question about combating vandalism on the new trains, Georgi Peev said that the police and gendarmerie maintain a permanent presence at major railway stations, while patrol programmes are in place at the smaller ones. “Of course, there is room for improvement and additional work between us and the police. This will be stepped up and will be particularly intensive during Eurovision 2027 and the following summer season,” he specified.
