Minister Hristo Alexiev and his Serbian counterpart Tomislav Momirovic agreed upon building intermodal hub on border between the two countries

An intermodal hub will be built on the border between Bulgaria and Serbia. This was agreed by the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Hristo Alexiev and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia Tomislav Momirovic during a meeting today in Dimitrovgrad, Serbia.

In the framework of their visit to the city's railway station, both ministers pledged to continue talks on joint activities at the common border railway station. The Bulgarian Minister pointed out that the main task was to ensure the transition by optimizing and modernizing the technical procedures for changing locomotives, optimizing schedules, reducing environmental damage, by promoting rail and intermodal transport.

Bulgaria and Serbia will make a joint proposal to the European Union to include the Dragoman-Nis section in the core Trans-European Transport Network, as was announced during the talks. "The Bulgarian side has made great efforts to include the section from Sofia to Dragoman in the core TEN-T network and today we have already signed contracts for the construction of road and railway infrastructure in this direction", Minister Alexiev added. "I will initiate a meeting with our European partners and with colleagues from the Republic of Serbia to discuss the expansion of the direction to Nis, which is Bulgaria's shortest route to Europe", Alexiev added.

Among the topics discussed was the project to expand the Green Lanes to the six countries of the Western Balkans, which is important to Bulgaria in terms of the continuity of the flow of goods. Minister Alexiev pointed out that the green border checkpoints on Bulgarian territory operate 24/7 for all types of vehicles. "Passing through them, including inspections and health examinations of transport workers, should not exceed 15 minutes at the internal land borders", Hristo Alexiev explained.

Both delegations inspected also the construction activities of the Europa Motorway on Bulgarian territory.
