The metro is an example of how sustainable projects outlast political changes. This was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Korman Ismailov, during an inspection of the new section of Line 3’s extension in the Poduyane district. The inspection was attended by the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev; the CEO of Metropolitan EAD, Nikolay Naydenov; representatives of the contractors; and others.
During the inspection, Minister Ismailov emphasised that the state consistently supports the development of transport infrastructure. "Ever since the operational programs in 2014, the state has been actively involved with funding and institutional support for this strategic project for the capital," he said.
Minister Ismailov noted that the joint efforts of the institutions and contractors are transforming Sofia into an increasingly modern and convenient city for both residents and visitors. "Each new station has its own character, combining modern design and functionality, and contributes to more sustainable urban transportation," Ismailov noted.
As part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan under the "Transport Connectivity" Priority, Metropolitan EAD is implementing two projects, including Phase 3 of Line 3—from the "Hadzhi Dimitar" metro station to the "Levski-G" residential complex. The project is funded by the EU to the tune of €144.3 million, of which €127.5 million has already been disbursed. A 3-kilometer route and three new metro stations are being built, providing a clean, fast, and efficient transportation link to the northeastern neighborhoods of Sofia.
