Minister Korman Ismailov: Over 60% of Postal Employees Receive the Minimum Wage While the Chief Executive Earns More Than EUR 7 600

“I support the postal employees and am convinced that the people who maintain this important public service on a daily basis deserve decent and fair pay, as well as better working conditions,” this was stated by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Korman Ismailov, in connection with the strike action launched today by employees of Bulgarian Posts EAD.

As early as last Friday, during a meeting with trade union organisations, Minister Ismailov announced that one of his first tasks had been to commission an audit of the management and financial condition of the postal operator.

“It is unacceptable that 60% of the employees of Bulgarian Posts are on the minimum wage, that the enterprise continuously generates losses and relies every year on subsidies from the state budget, that the quality of services and revenues do not improve, while at the same time the CEO receives a salary of more than EUR 7 600 a month. The remuneration of the CEO and of the Board of Directors will be reduced. It is their responsibility to ensure high revenues for the company and to manage taxpayers’ money with the diligence of a good steward,” Korman Ismailov emphasised.

He also informed that he will submit to the Council of Ministers a proposal for the advance allocation of funds to Bulgarian Posts amounting to EUR 5 million. “I will refer to a decision of the European Commission from December 2025 which increases the maximum permissible annual compensation for services of general economic interest from EUR 15 million to EUR 20 million,” he explained
