Minister Peev: The working conditions in railway depots are desperate

„The people I see here are professionals who love their work, but the working conditions are more than desperate“. This was stated by Mr. Georgi Peev, Minister of Transport and Communications during an inspection of the Nadezhda Railway wagon depot. Together with Deputy Minister Tsveta Timeva, he reviewed on site the maintenance activities for some of the recently delivered German passenger wagons, as well as the storage and preservation conditions of the last two new Škoda electric multiple-unit trains.

During the visit, BDZ employees presented the process of technical maintenance and preparation of the wagons for entry into service. Minister Peev spoke with the depot staff and got acquainted with the challenges they face on a daily basis.

“The people who work here know the railway system to every little detail and give their best to maintain the rolling stock. Unfortunately, their professionalism too often compensates the lack of adequate decisions at a higher level,” the Minister pointed out.

He stressed that improving working conditions and modernizing the railway sector should go hand in hand. Minister Peev also noted that the preservation and maintenance of the new rolling stock are among the Ministry management’s main priorities, while ensuring safety and reliability of railway transport remains a leading objective.
