Ministry of Transport and Communications is in contact with Bulgarian airlines for the evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from the Middle East

The Ministry of Transport and Communications took timely action to provide air transport for the evacuation of Bulgarian citizens from the Middle East. As early as February 28, 2026, talks were held with the management of all Bulgarian airlines that have aircraft or operate in the region.

As port of these actions, the available aircraft, the possibilities for providing the necessary slots for take-off and landing, as well as the operational parameters of possible flights are being clarified. The process is being carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the competent national institutions, partner countries in the region and the Member States of the European Union. Ensuring the safety of Bulgarian citizens and creating conditions for their timely return at the first safe opportunity remains a top priority.

Currently, two Airbus A330 aircraft with a capacity of 327 seats each, one Airbus A321 with 220 seats and up to five Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 seats each have been secured. Provided the necessary safety conditions are in place, they can be engaged to carry out evacuation flights on short notice.

Active coordination is also being maintained with the aviation administrations of other EU Member States, including the exchange of information on planned evacuations, opportunities for joint actions and the mutual use of available capacity.

The government aircraft Airbus A319 is also ready to take part in evacuation operations if necessary.
