Modernization of Pernik traction substation starts

ЗThe modernization of the Pernik traction substation began. The renovation of the more than 40-year-old facility will contribute to safer train movement and fewer delays. Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Murad Turk participated in the event.

He pointed out that within just a few days the renovation of two such facilities was launched, which is a clear sign of the accelerated efforts to develop the railway sector. “The expectations are to increase the capacity of the line, as well as to reduce the accidents on the railway traffic," Deputy Minister Turk said.

The event was attended by Mrs. Indre Venskunaite, a representative of the European Commission and the Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment (CINEA), representatives of the Managing Authority of the Connecting Europe Facility, the management of the National Railway Infrastructure Company, representatives of the contractor, the local government, and others.

The Pernik traction substation is part of the Sofia-Kulata railway line. The site envisages the construction of a new facility with modern technologies, the implementation of a SCADA telecontrol system, as well as warranty maintenance and service for a period of 10 years. Its implementation is expected to lead to higher energy efficiency, better quality of power supply and significantly more reliable operation. The value of the construction contract is EUR 5,467,402.58 excluding VAT and is co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility.
