Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev met with representatives of driving schools to discuss the chronic shortage of examiners for learner drivers.
During the meeting, Minister Peev presented specific measures aimed at improving organisation and increasing examination capacity.
Monthly schedules will be drawn up on the basis of the number of examiners available, in order to ensure that all regions of the country are adequately covered. In the regions with the highest demand, examinations will also be made available on Saturdays and Sundays. “Our aim is to make maximum use of the resources available so that the shortage of examiners does not become an obstacle for learner drivers and driving schools,” Minister Georgi Peev said.
Solutions are being sought through the 2027 budget to increase, as far as possible, the remuneration of employees within the relevant administrative structure. The aim is to help attract and retain the specialists required. The capacity of the system will also be optimised as a result of the planned transfer of some of the functions of the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” to the Ministry of Interior.
Minister Peev emphasised the need for long-term, sustainable solutions that go beyond administrative reorganisation. He announced that working meetings would be held with the Ministry of Education and Science to update the curriculum documentation and all the materials required for driver training.
“I will insist that industry experts be directly involved in this process, because proper driver training begins with high-quality training materials,” Georgi Peev said.
The Ministry of Transport and Communications will continue its dialogue with representatives of driving schools and will monitor the impact of the measures introduced.
