By 2030, Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia will complete the construction of the railway connection between the two countries. This became clear during a meeting at the Ministry of Transport and Communications between Minister Korman Ismailov and the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria H.E. Agneza Rusi-Popovska, where it was reaffirmed the overall commitment to the implementation of the strategic project.
They both welcomed the ratification by the parliaments of Bulgaria and North Macedonia of the Agreement on the construction of the cross-border railway tunnel – a key step that allows for the real start of activities. The next stage is the creation of a Joint Committee led by Deputy Ministers of Transport, which will coordinate the preparation, construction and future operation of the facility.
Minister Ismailov emphasized that the Bulgarian side is working at an accelerated pace on the modernization of the Sofia-Pernik-Radomir-Gyueshevo railway line. According to Ambassador Rusi-Popovska, constructive cooperation between the institutions of the two countries is an important prerequisite for the smooth implementation of the project.
