The Ministry of Transport and Communications has approved six projects for the construction of fast-charging centres for electric vehicles along the national road network. The projects have a total value of nearly BGN 2.7 million, financed under the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021 – 2027.
The projects envisage the construction of charging centres for passenger vehicles with a capacity of 150 kW, enabling a full vehicle charge in approximately 15 minutes. Two of the charging centres will be located near the Trakia Motorway, at the exits for the town of Chirpan and the village of Kabile, respectively. The remaining four locations are on Asenovgradsko Shose Boulevard near Plovdiv, on European route E-79 near the town of Mezdra, in the Chanlaka area in the town of Aksakovo, and near the village of Zavoy in Yambol Region.
The projects also include facilities for the generation of electricity from renewable energy sources, as well as rest areas for the convenience of users. The implementation period for the projects ranges from 12 to 30 months.
In January 2026, a second call for proposals for road-based charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is due to be launched, with a total budget of approximately BGN 19.5 million. This procedure will provide support to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises for the development of charging infrastructure for alternative fuels.
