The operation will be carried out tomorrow
The hydraulic system of the motor vessel KAIROS has been successfully brought into working mode, and the tanker is prepared for towing to a safe location in the Bay of Burgas. The activities were carried out today in execution of the approved plan for securing the ship and under the supervision of the Executive Agency "Maritime Administration".
"The plan for today was to restore the power supply and hydraulics of the ship, check the anchoring equipment, and prepare the anchors for tomorrow's towing. All of this has been achieved and guarantees the safe continuation of the operation," stated the Director of the "Maritime Administration" Directorate – Burgas, Zhivko Petrov.
Today, the anchoring systems were checked and tested. The port anchor has been restored as a reserve, and the starboard anchor has been prepared for its upcoming lifting tomorrow. The attachment points for the ropes and steel lines necessary for towing have also been determined.
The actual towing actions are planned for tomorrow morning. Three tugboats will arrive near KAIROS tomorrow morning at 07:30 a.m. to begin towing the tanker to the pre-designated location in the Bay of Burgas. The workboat with the power generator will also be on-site to ensure the maintenance of the power supply on board during the lifting of the anchoring equipment.
