Unified control, more technology and clear responsibility are the main elements of the Action Plan to reduce the risk of serious road accidents and reduce road fatalities. It was published on the website of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

The reform was adopted by a Decision of the Council of Ministers of 9 September 2026. 

The Executive Director of the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", Boyko Ranovski, presented the results of the inspections of the school buses during a demonstration inspection in the town of Kostinbrod.

Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev held a meeting with Arndt Schoenemann, CEO of DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, the German air navigation service provider.

Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev met with representatives of driving schools to discuss the chronic shortage of examiners for learner drivers.

During the meeting, Minister Peev presented specific measures aimed at improving organisation and increasing examination capacity.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Ministry of Interior presented a comprehensive national reform of traffic management and road safety. At its core is the establishment of a Unified National Road Enforcement System comprising four interconnected technological components: toll terminals, a sensor network for real-time monitoring, a central “Digital Core” and a National Operations Centre.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Christina Velinova held an online meeting with representatives of Qatar Airways to discuss the possibilities for restoring direct flights between Sofia and Doha.

Stela Georgieva and Tsvetomir Doskov have been appointed as new members of the Board of Directors of Bulgarian Posts EAD by order of Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev. Elitsa Popova will remain on the company’s management board.

Darin Matov, Radoslav Bozhkov and Zdravko Anakiev have been released from their positions. 

By order of Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev, a new Board of Directors of Holding BDZ EAD has been appointed. The change is aimed at ensuring continuity, a high level of professional expertise and effective management of the national railway operator until a competitive selection procedure is conducted in accordance with the Public Enterprises Act.

The current state of Bulgarian Posts requires sustained efforts to make more efficient use of resources, introduce new technologies and improve working conditions. This was stated by Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev following an unannounced visit to the Bulgarian Exchange and Sorting Centre in Sofia. It is the largest distribution centre of Bulgarian Posts. The Minister met with employees, familiarised himself with the centre’s operations and visited the post office in the Chelopechene District.

Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev held an online meeting with Romania’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence and Interim Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Radu-Dinel Miruță and Serbia’s Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijević. The meeting, initiated by Minister Peev, focused on the upcoming works on the railway infrastructure in Serbia and Romania and their impact on international rail traffic.

The first two of a total of 35 new Alstom trains will enter regular service in early September. Twelve trains have already been delivered to Bulgaria, while the remaining 23 will be ready for delivery by April 2027. This was announced by Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev at Sofia Central Railway Station during the presentation of the first Alstom electric multiple unit for Bulgaria.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has brought together the history of Bulgarian stamp issuing from 1879 to the present day in an electronic catalogue. More than 5,800 original postage stamps have so far been digitised and made available on a specially created website. 

Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev sent a letter to the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria concerning free travel on public transport for children under the age of 14.

The letter follows a growing number of cases in which, due to technical incompatibility between the fare control systems used in different municipalities, the validity of an electronic travel card issued in another municipality cannot be verified. 

The public consultation on the draft amendments to the Ordinance on Navigation and the Border Regime in the Internal Maritime Waters, Territorial Sea and Inland Waterways of the Republic of Bulgaria has concluded. Four submissions from citizens and organisations were received during the 30-day consultation period. 

An Il-76 aircraft of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (EMERCOM of Russia) operated a flight to assist in fighting the wildfires in the Republic of Serbia. The aircraft crossed Bulgarian airspace between 20:14 and 21:05 and landed at the airport in the city of Niš.

As part of the preparations for the flight, the Bulgarian authorities issued the necessary permits in accordance with the established procedures.

Just days after the new Škoda electric multiple units began carrying passengers, one of them was spray-painted at Blagoevgrad railway station.

When the new electric multiple units entered service, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev called on citizens to take care of the new trains and public property. They have been purchased with public funds and are intended to provide more modern and comfortable travel. This is an investment for all of us, and taking care of it is a shared responsibility.

We will find a lasting and comprehensive solution for the construction of Tunnel 2 near Vakarel. The geological surprises are a reality and the challenges are considerable. However, they are also foreseeable when all possible risks during construction are taken into account in the preparation and procurement of such a complex infrastructure project. This was stated by Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev during an inspection of the Elin Pelin – Kostenets railway section.
