Rossen Jeliazkov: 2019 is crucial for large project implementation under OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure

Next year will be crucial for the implementation of large projects financed under OP Transport and Transport Infrastructure, stated the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Rossen Jeliazkov, at the 10th session of the OP Monitoring committee, 29-30.11.2018 in the town of Pravets.

The resources for the next programming period is to be planned in 2019 considering several important policies, noted Minister Jeliazkov. In his words, they are related to the future of cohesion policy at EU level and funds deficiency as a result from Brexit. At European level, the focus is on the rule of law that will be founding element when planning Union’s next-year budget.

“All that comes to show that we shall carefully envisage the investments in transport sector for the next financial framework, taking note of national policies parallel to European context”, the Minister added.

Jeliazkov further commented on the two risky projects under the Operational Program – modernization of the railway line Elin Pelin – Kostenets and the construction of Lot 3.2 of Struma motorway. They are subject to intense monitoring on the part of both EC and MTITC. “Despite construction works not having started yet, provided we sign the contracts in the months to come, we would largely implement the activities within the deadlines set”, concluded the Minister.
