The Minister of Transport and Communications, Georgi Peev, held a working meeting with the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria, His Excellency (H. E.) H. Martin McDowell. The development of regional transport connectivity and high technology were the focus of the discussion.
During the meeting, Minister Peev highlighted the critical importance of Corridor VIII: "This is a project of exceptionally high priority for us and for the security of the region. We are focused on expediting the railway connection and coordinating with the Republic of North Macedonia on the construction of the border railway tunnel."
Special attention was given to cooperation in the aviation sector. Minister Peev and His Excellency (H. E.) H. Martin McDowell discussed opportunities for modernising Bulgaria's airport infrastructure with U.S. expert assistance. One of the highlights of the meeting was the prospect of launching a direct air route between Sofia and the United States.
In the field of high technology, discussions revolved around the future development of 6G networks and the importance of protecting critical infrastructure. Minister Peev shared Bulgaria’s experience in building high‑tech data centres and emphasised the country’s commitment to adhering to the highest international security standards.
