The driving course of the driver who caused the severe road incident on 17 October in the area between Sozopol and Chernomorets ended on 11 July 2025 – one day before the mandatory digitalisation of driver candidate training came into force. This was announced by the Executive Director of the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", Slav Monov, who today participated in the inspection of the driver's training course in Burgas.

In connection with the severe road incident from last night, in which three people died, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov ordered a full inspection of the training and exam of the young driver who caused the crash.

 

The inspection is being carried out by the The Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", and all available data and recordings from the driver candidate training system, as well as recordings from the driver's theoretical and practical exams, will be reviewed.

Bulgaria, Türkiye, and Romania will work together to develop new road and rail connections to ease the growing traffic between the three countries and to strengthen the region’s role as a key logistics corridor linking Europe, the Middle East, and the Caucasus.

This became clear during a trilateral meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, and Romanian State Secretary for Transport Horatiu Cosma, held yesterday.

Only two bridges connect Bulgaria and Romania along their 475-kilometer shared river border – a transport deficit that functions as a new “Iron Curtain” within the European Union. This was emphasized by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov during a trilateral meeting with Greece’s Alternate Minister of Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis and Romania’s Secretary of State at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Horatiu Cosma.

Accelerating transport connectivity in Southeast Europe was the focus of a Ministerial Conference organized under the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov. The rescue operation in the Black Sea was successfully completed with the rescue of the entire crew of the cargo ship EILEEN. The operation was conducted by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Varna, and the quick and effective response ensured the safety of the sailors.

At 13:14 today, a signal was received at the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) – Varna for a cargo ship with a hole in the board and incoming water. The ship EILEEN flies the Cameroonian flag and is located in the Bulgarian marine search and rescue region, about 140 nautical miles east of Varna. The crew of 10 Ukrainian sailors had left the ship on two lifeboats.

Immediately after receiving the signal, the MRCC launched a rescue operation.

The construction of the Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo Motorway is gradually accelerating, and BGN 300 million are expected to be paid to the Road Infrastructure Agency by the end of the year under the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027.
