The Committee on Transport and Communications approved at first reading the 2026 State Budget Bill, submitted with the opinion of the Council of Ministers. During the meeting, the Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev presented the main priorities in the budget of the ministry and answered questions from members of Parliament.

“This is a budget of pragmatism. We are currently in the process of revising contracts, prioritizing projects and looking for the right approach for their implementation,” Minister Georgi Peev said.

We are preparing a map of strategic infrastructure projects that are priorities for the country. The Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev said at a meeting with the leadership of the Bulgarian Construction Chamber. 

Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev met with a delegation from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), led by Executive Director Florian Guillermet. This is the first visit by the management of the European Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority to Bulgaria since 2019 and is a sign of the active cooperation between Bulgaria and EASA.

During the meeting, Minister Peev emphasized that flight safety is his main priority, both as a minister and as a long-time director of the State Enterprise “Air Traffic Control”.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has published an updated list of the approved water corridors and registered watercraft along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast for the 2026 summer season. The information has been compiled by the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” with the aim of enhancing safety and increasing public awareness.

The Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev sent a letter to all port operators in the country with instructions to take additional measures so that overloaded trucks do not enter and exit the ports.

In the letter, Minister Peev draws attention to cases of traffic accidents with vehicles that left the ports while overloaded.

The competitiveness of Bulgaria’s sea and river ports and their role in the development of the strategic Middle Corridor were the focus of a working meeting held at the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

“We need to take a comprehensive view of transport issues and not work in isolation.” This was stated by Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev during a rapid question-and-answer session of the Committee on Transport and Communications in the National Assembly. He answered questions related to road safety, rail transport, the condition of state transport companies, the implementation of projects under the Recovery and Resilience Plan and legislative initiatives in the sector.

The Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev held a working meeting with representatives of aviation industry organizations and airport operators, where key priorities for the sustainable development of Bulgaria’s civil aviation and the improvement of the country’s regulatory policy were discussed.

Six people were injured today in an accident involving a banana-type inflatable water attraction at an unregistered water base near the town of Aheloy. Three of the victims were hospitalized in Burgas and Sunny Beach, and the other three were released for home treatment after sustaining injuries.

A flight of the Polish airline LOT on the Warsaw-Tel Aviv route, using an Airbus A320 of the Bulgarian airline Elektra Airways, made an emergency landing at Burgas Airport.

The reason for the diversion is a technical malfunction in the aircraft’s transponder, which transmitted a false signal of unlawful interference/hijacking. The established procedure for airspace protection – Air Policing was triggered. After confirming that there was no real threat on board, the plane left the country via Türkiye.

Bulgaria and Türkiye will work together with the European Commission to develop the Middle Corridor between Asia and Europe. The Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of Türkiye Abdulkadir Uraloğlu confirmed during a phone conversation. 

The Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” has launched intensified inspections along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, targeting all water attractions during Summer 2026. The aim is to limit the risk of accidents and provide a safe environment for citizens and visitors to the country. The inspections are carried out jointly with representatives of the Directorate General “Civil Aviation Administration” and Directorate General “Border Police”.

The Bulgarian delegation discussed support for Ukraine’s reconstruction and regional connectivity in Gdańsk.

Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev participated in the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, Poland. He was accompanied by Deputy Minister Hristina Velinova. Both are part of the Bulgarian delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Alexander Pulev.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Executive Agency “Maritime Administration” inform the public that the tar deposits observed over the past few days on beaches along the northern and, particularly, the southern Black Sea coast are so-called tar  balls – hardened, tar-like lumps formed from aged petroleum pollution that has been present in the marine environment for an extended period. They were washed ashore by waves together with marine debris following rough sea conditions between June 15th and 20th.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova attended the high-level meeting on the development of the Middle Corridor, held today in Brussels. During the event, Bulgaria presented its vision of the strategic role of the Black Sea ports as gateways from Europe to the Middle Corridor.

Bulgaria remains fully committed to the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the governments of Bulgaria, Greece and Romania on enhanced cross-border cooperation. At a time when the budget and financial framework for next year is being prepared, the role of trade union organisations is particularly important. With these words, Minister of Transport and Communications Georgi Peev addressed representatives of three of the company's trade union organisations - the Communications Trade Union Federation affiliated with CITUB, the Democratic Communications Trade Union, and the Communications Federation affiliated with the “Podkrepa” Confederation of Labour - who attended a meeting at the ministry.

The Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027 is among the key instruments for the development of the country's transport infrastructure. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Anna Natova during a meeting of the monitoring committee of the European programme.
