Deputy Prime Minister Karadzhov: Rapid response and good coordination between institutions prevented the fire from spreading

The withdrawal of 22 tanks from the cargo composition began, which derailed early this morning near the village of Pyasachevo. At the same time, burnt tanks are also being removed.

Ryanair owes answers, not excuses!

Ryanair’s attempt to shift the blame onto the ground handling operator is unacceptable because it does not address the most important questions:

1.   Has the airline launched an internal investigation into the specific incident?

2.   Why was safety not considered at risk during two previous flights on 24 July with the same airline and the same mobility aid, while now the opposite is claimed?

I have received information about yet another scandalous incident today at “Vasil Levski” Airport – Sofia. A Bulgarian family with a nine-year-old child with reduced mobility had chosen to travel to Toulouse via Bergamo on a Ryanair flight. The family boarded the aircraft but was then removed on the orders of the pilot, on the grounds that the child’s wheelchair did not meet safety standards due to its battery.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Dear railway workers, colleagues and friends,

It is an honour for me to extend my greetings to you on the occasion of Railway Workers’ Day – the celebration of those who, with diligence, professionalism and quiet dedication, maintain one of the most important links in our economy and society – the Bulgarian railway.

The value of the tenders exceeds BGN 576 million, and the deadline for completion of construction is 2029.

I am extremely outraged by the unacceptable behaviour of the employee of the ground handling operator “Goldair Handling Bulgaria” during yesterday’s luggage dispute involving a passenger of “Ryanair”. Instead of making efforts to defuse tensions during these peak travel months, he contributed to the escalation of emotions and behaved rudely towards her. Before noon today, I instructed the Directorate General “Civil Aviation Administration” to review the CCTV recordings and to conduct interviews with witnesses to the incident and with representatives of the Border Police.

An amendment to the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria proposes to extend the deadline for taxi meters to issue receipts showing prices in both BGN and EUR until 30 October 2025. The amendment is part of a package of legislative changes submitted by the government to the National Assembly, which is expected to consider them before 8 August this year.

Bulgaria and North Macedonia reaffirmed their commitment to completing the missing railway sections of Corridor VIII. At a meeting in Brussels, organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood (DG ENEST), representatives of the transport ministries of both countries held bilateral discussions.

Today, on this significant date for Bulgaria – the 188th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle of Freedom, Vasil Levski – the country’s main air gateway now welcomes travellers with his name. “We want every Bulgarian citizen, and every visitor arriving here at the capital’s airport, to remember Levski’s ideals – of a pure and sacred republic.“

Digital transformation must be inclusive and accessible to all – regardless of geographical location, social status, or age group. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Dimitar Nedyalkov, during the Forum of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Geneva. He emphasised that, for Bulgaria, it is of strategic importance that more people and businesses have the opportunity to actively participate in the global digital economy and benefit from its potential.

Bulgaria is accelerating the implementation of key railway infrastructure projects with European funding, covering more than 550 km of railway lines. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Lyuben Nanov, at the opening of the conference “Strategic Infrastructure Projects in Railway Transport”, held in Sofia.

In March, we proposed three new investments in the railway sector under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, two of which have now been approved. This was announced today by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Grozdan Karadjov, during a press briefing.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications announces the launch of the campaign for collecting proposals for themes of postage stamps to be issued in 2026. Submissions will be accepted until 31 August 2025.

Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia have agreed to swiftly finalise the Agreement on the construction of a cross-border railway tunnel between the two countries. This was confirmed today during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications of Bulgaria, Grozdan Karadjov, and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of the Republic of North Macedonia, Aleksandar Nikoloski, held within the framework of the “Global Forum for Transport Connectivity 2025” in Istanbul.

Two aviation incidents involving light aircraft were registered this morning, with no fatalities or serious injuries in either case.

At 05:50 a.m., a Cirrus SR22 aircraft with U.S. registration crashed shortly after take-off from Petrich, in the area below Mount Vihren. On board were the pilot and two passengers, who managed to reach a nearby mountain shelter on their own. By order of the Aviation Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, they were transported by a medical helicopter operated by Bulgaria Heli Med Service to a healthcare facility for examination.

“We must act swiftly to increase the capacity of the rail and road connections between Bulgaria and Turkey—both to enable people to travel more easily and quickly, and to ease the heavy freight traffic coming from Istanbul. Northbound freight will be able to enter Bulgaria via a high-speed road at Malko Tarnovo, and by rail at Lesovo. Bulgaria plans to grant a concession for the construction of the “Black Sea” motorway, along with two extensions: a four-lane road north of Varna to the Romanian border, and another of the same profile south of Burgas to Malko Tarnovo.

“Bulgaria currently has one major border crossing with Turkey, which is extremely congested and plagued by continuous queues stretching for kilometres. We are now beginning the construction of a high-speed road corridor from Burgas to Malko Tarnovo, as well as a new railway line from Yambol via Lesovo to Turkey.” This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Grozdan Karadjov, during the “Global Forum for Transport Connectivity 2025”, taking place in Istanbul.
