The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Grozdan Karadzhov, has sent an official letter to the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, in connection with the complicated situation at the border checkpoints between Bulgaria and Greece caused by blockades by Greek farmers.

Bulgaria has proposed that the strategic railway section Ruse–Gorna Oryahovitsa be included in the annex of the Connecting Europe Facility for the period 2028-2034. At a meeting of the Transport Council today in Brussels, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov emphasized that the section is key for cross-border connectivity, military mobility, and the development of the European corridor "Baltic Sea – Black Sea – Aegean Sea."

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications, Grozdan Karadzhov, has sent a report to the Prosecutor General regarding circulated video materials showing suspicious actions by employees of the Executive Agency "Automobile Administration" – Kyustendil, during a roadside check.

The Public Transport Act will be further developed with the contribution of municipalities, carriers and consumer organizations. Passengers remains at the center of the law. This is its philosophy and it will not change.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov said after a meeting with bus carriers and representatives of consumer organizations during the public discussion of the draft Public Transport Act.

We are making the most important reform in public transport in Bulgaria in half a century. The Ministry of Transport and Communications insists that the concessionaire of Vasil Levski Airport - Sofia SOF Connect should start paying the full amount of the due concession fee from January 1, 2026. For 2025, the amount is nearly EUR 40 million excluding VAT. This was announced at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov and SOF Connect CEO Jesús Caballero and representatives of the company.

The concessionaire of Burgas Airport will invest an additional BGN 100 million in the rehabilitation of the airport’s runway. The large-scale project was launched today on the symbolic anniversary of the signing of the concession agreement between the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD.

The quota of bilateral, transit and third-country road freight transport permits between Bulgaria and Kazakhstan will be doubled in 2026. The agreement was reached by the Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications, Dimitar Nedyalkov, and the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Maksat Kaliakparov, during the Joint Bulgarian – Kazakh Commission on Road Transport. The meeting took place on 29–30 October 2025 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The railway depots in Sofia, Plovdiv, and Gorna Oryahovitsa will be the main bases for the daily maintenance and storage of the new 60 multiple unit trains from "Skoda" and "Alstom", which are expected to arrive in Bulgaria next year. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov during a visit to the BDZ–Passenger Services depots in Ruse, Gorna Oryahovitsa, and Mezdra.

The new Public Transport Act is ready. Next week we will begin discussing the texts together with the National Association of Municipalities. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadzhov during today's meeting with mayors from municipalities in the Ruse region, organised by the regional governor Dragomir Draganov.

The residents of the village of Trud and the surrounding settlements have been requesting for years a convenient and regular transport connection to the neighbouring city of Plovdiv. The daily commute of workers, students and the elderly is severely hampered by the lack of a regular direct line to key stops in the city.

Nearly 1,000 buses have already been inspected – road control will continue until the end of the month


From 14 August, 2025, the Executive Agency “Automobile Administration” began inspecting buses that will transport children and students during the new school year.

I have received information about yet another scandalous incident today at “Vasil Levski” Airport – Sofia. A Bulgarian family with a nine-year-old child with reduced mobility had chosen to travel to Toulouse via Bergamo on a Ryanair flight. The family boarded the aircraft but was then removed on the orders of the pilot, on the grounds that the child’s wheelchair did not meet safety standards due to its battery.

The value of the tenders exceeds BGN 576 million, and the deadline for completion of construction is 2029.

An amendment to the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria proposes to extend the deadline for taxi meters to issue receipts showing prices in both BGN and EUR until 30 October 2025. The amendment is part of a package of legislative changes submitted by the government to the National Assembly, which is expected to consider them before 8 August this year. 

Today, on this significant date for Bulgaria – the 188th anniversary of the birth of the Apostle of Freedom, Vasil Levski – the country’s main air gateway now welcomes travellers with his name. “We want every Bulgarian citizen, and every visitor arriving here at the capital’s airport, to remember Levski’s ideals – of a pure and sacred republic.“

Two aviation incidents involving light aircraft were registered this morning, with no fatalities or serious injuries in either case.

At 05:50 a.m., a Cirrus SR22 aircraft with U.S. registration crashed shortly after take-off from Petrich, in the area below Mount Vihren. On board were the pilot and two passengers, who managed to reach a nearby mountain shelter on their own. By order of the Aviation Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, they were transported by a medical helicopter operated by Bulgaria Heli Med Service to a healthcare facility for examination.
